Merge

Merge refers to Ethereum's migration from a proof-of-work consensus mechanism to a proof-of-stake one. The Merge describes the moment when the Ethereum blockchain will be linked with the Beacon Chain, a proof-of-stake blockchain. The Merge will cut Ethereum's energy consumption by ~99.95%. It will prove that a decentralized and permissionless platform can run energy-efficiently.
