Cambridge University Launches Crypto Research Project with IMF, BIS
On 01.03 the official Twitter account of Cambridge University announced a collaboration with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) and others (British International Investment, Ernst & Young, Fidelity, and the World Bank, Goldman Sachs, and payment giants Mastercard and Visa) to conduct crypto research.
The executive director of the Cambridge University’s Centre for Alternative Finance (CCAF), Bryan Zhang said - “The Cambridge Digital Assets Programme that we are launching today aims to meet the resulting need for greater clarity by providing data-driven insights through collaborative research involving public and private sector stakeholders…”
Currently, the exact aims of the project are not yet announced, however it is clear that it is going to touch financial technologies and cryptocurrencies use-cases.
Minecraft Enters Web3 With 'NFT Worlds' on Polygon
The project built upon the third-party Minecraft servers - “NFT Worlds” will enable players to use Web3 features, including an online marketplace to buy/sell NFT which might boost the gaming experience and make it possible to earn money through the game process. For that purpose, a special $WRLD token (ERC-20) was created.
Even though the game is not as popular as it used to be in 2012-2014, it has millions of fans all over the world and the newly implemented features might resurrect gamers’ interest and bring a new wave of hype to the game.
However, developers might face some legal issues with Microsoft, while the multi-billion company might have its own plans towards Minecraft metaverse. Therefore the team of NFT Worlds maintains close contact with Microsoft's representatives.
Swiss city of Lugano to pay taxes in crypto via Tether partnership
The new collaboration between the city of Lugano and Tether Operations Limited is going to allow citizens of the economic capital of southern Switzerland to pay taxes with USDT.
The government of the city and Tether have established a Center of Excellence for Blockchain Adoption intending to become a major European blockchain hub.
Michele Foletti, the mayor of Lugano stated: “Lugano is investing in its future. In recent years, we have already implemented blockchain-based solutions including the MyLugano app and its LVGA Points payment token, the Lugano digital franc, and the 3Achain blockchain infrastructure.”
Square Enix Enters The Sandbox Ethereum Metaverse
The AAA game publisher - Square Enix is going to bring the fantasy role-playing game “Dungeon Siege” into the Sandbox metaverse. It is going to be implemented in several ways - characters and items from the game will be available on the marketplace and interactive experience on Square Enix’s owned LAND
The company is among a short range of game publishers with serious plans on metaverse and NFT. One of their direct competitors - Ubisoft, has also revealed plans to join Sandboxes metaverse with their famous Rabbids.
Earlier this year the president of Square Enix - Yosuke Matsuda mentioned in his New Year’s letter that the company will invest aggressively in areas including blockchain gaming and that self-sustaining token economies could fuel game growth.
