Japan’s Parliament Has Passed a Bill on Stablecoins Regulation
The upper house of Japan's parliament has just passed a landmark law clarifying the legal status of stablecoins, essentially defining them as digital money, per a Bloomberg report Friday.
The bill, initially prepared by Japan's Financial Services Agency (FSA), was first announced in December 2021 and passed Parliament in March before being approved by a majority during today’s House of Councilors plenary session.
The New York State Senate Imposed a Moratorium on Bitcoin Mining
New York is now one step closer to becoming the first state to ban crypto mining that relies on carbon-based power sources.
The news comes after the state’s lawmakers passed a bill barring new entrants from establishing operations and pausing renewals for the already existing operating permits.
Approved by the New York State Assembly in April, the Senate Bill S6486D was passed in a 36-27 win following an early morning vote on Friday.
Binance Labs Announces $500 Million Web3 Fund
Binance Labs, the investment arm of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, today announced a new half-billion dollar fund. The $500 million will be invested in Web3 projects, the exchange said in a Wednesday statement.
The fund has big backers: Internet investment capital firm DST Global and global venture capital firm Breyer Capital are both involved.
BAYC Discord Server Was Hacked - ~200 ETH Stolen
The Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) Discord server was hacked on Saturday, with the attacker making off with 200 ETH ($360,000) worth of NFTs, according to Yuga Labs.
The hack took place after the project’s community manager, Boris Vagner, had his Discord account compromised, which the attacker then used to post phishing links in both the official BAYC and its related metaverse project called Otherside’s Discord channels.
